Task 1 : Game Design Document

Lately, I have been really tired ( as always ) and not only me I have been noticed something interesting, where people who don't sleep much tend to have a lot of vivid dreams. Of course, each dream is totally different, and just when they get super exciting part of the dream , they wake up because of an alarm or someone interrupting , So some random thought of me where  started looking into it to see if I could come up with some cool ideas for a game based on this experience.

Me trying to do some researching.....

Sleepwalking (Somnambulism)

Genetics and Sleepwalking
Sleepwalking has a genetic component, as evidenced by studies showing it runs in families. Research has identified specific genetic markers and mutations that increase susceptibility. Twin studies also support a strong hereditary link.

Sleepwalking in Children vs. Adults
Sleepwalking is more common in children, affecting about 15-30% of kids compared to 1-4% of adults. In children, sleepwalking is often outgrown as their nervous system matures. For adults, it may be more chronic and linked to other sleep disorders or stress.

3 Game Ideas

1. Super Mario Bros Wonder Nintendo Version

Supermario Bros Wonder Nintendo Version

Supermario Bros Wonder Nintendo Trailer

While searching and looking for the concept of Mario that inspired me the most to this game development, I found Super Mario Bros. I quite wondering the difference and actually found out they offers a broader array of gameplay diversity compared to previous titles like New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. This version introduces challenge levels and innovative effects that transform levels into new experiences, keeping players engaged for extended periods.

Look at THAT VISUALS !

While looking at the trailer , I must say the visual is crazyyy. In terms of visuals, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is praised for being the best-looking two-dimensional Mario game to date, with a blend of classic Mario elements and fresh, creative ideas. The game's art style and level design have been commended for their creativity and variety, offering a visually appealing experience.

The game introduces new power-ups like the Elephant Fruit, which transforms Mario into an elephant that can swing its trunk to trounce enemies, the Bubble Flower, which lets Mario blow bubbles to defeat baddies or bounce on, and the Drill Mushroom, which allows Mario to drill through the ground and ceiling to find new places to explore

I would say the game boasts more detailed environments, redesigned character models, and more intricate level outlays, leveraging the power of the Switch.

2. DreamWalker Mobile Game

Dreamwalker Mobile Game

Dreamwalker Mobile Game Play Trailer

This game has inspired me the most by the concept, to introduce about this game is that the gameplay of DreamWalker involves a surreal and slow-paced puzzle-runner experience set in a world of subconscious dreams and nightmares. Players explore a fantastic environment filled with unique physics, architectures, and mind games.

Game Play
The game have to collect the stars to unlock new chapters for exploration and gathering butterflies to purchase new dresses and hero models from the Prize Wheel. The game offers challenging puzzles, abstract dream scenarios, and a mix of mind-bending challenges that players navigate through.  Throughout the game, players interact with various objects in the room, such as books and furniture, to learn how to move in virtual space and use VR controls.

Game Design / Visual
Visual  and the game design of dreamwalkers is influenced by how individuals might experience dreams, featuring unconventional spaces and architectures like an upside-down city or a forest falling onto the user. To draw players towards points of interest, the developers experimented with eye-catching lighting and colours, avoiding traditional game-like elements such as collecting items or defeating enemies. The experience starts in a simple bedroom, serving as a safe space to ease players into the surreal visuals that populate the virtual world later on.

3. Night in the woods in Nitendo

Night in the woods in Nitendo

Night in the woods in Nitendo - Trailer

Game Design
The game design is heavily focused on storytelling and character development. The player takes on the role of Mae, a college dropout who returns to her hometown, and the game explores her relationships with her friends and the town's residents. The dialogue is well-written and realistic, with the characters discussing relatable issues such as mental health, adulthood, and the pressures of modern life

Feedback

Week 3 - 14/05/2024

The ideas is acceptable, the elements of the game can think about more onto what can be found before sleep or after sleep , that makes it more relatable. However , do consider the 2D perspctive like for the characters of their position and movement

Reflection

For this task, I often find myself filled with doubt and fear about whether I can actually accomplish it. It's been a while since I last worked with Unity, and the uncertainty is overwhelming. There are so many unknowns swirling in my mind, making me question my abilities and whether I can see this task through to the end. These negative thoughts keep creeping in, and I can't help but feel unsure about my chances of completing this module. The idea of this game is something that I hope able to proceed it and it sounds find and interesting to have this concept , hope all the best huhu
