artwork. We can use the initials of our name, first name or pet
name.
Explore and combine as many permutations and combinations of these
initials as possible. The final key art must be an elegant solution,
not a complex or confusing key art that leads to functional and
communicative key art.
This key artwork will then be used in the Task 2(B)

Personal Mind Mapping - About Me
Fig 1.0 Mind-mapping to know about myself, Week 5
(28/09/2022)
Mr Vinod suggested where we can do a mind map as a starting point for
this task to understand ourselves and gain stronger ideas and concepts
later on. In the mind map, I list several sections, which are my
strengths, weaknesses, passions, thoughts and feelings, inspiration and
goals. It was a bit of a challenge for me to start this assignment, but
then I felt like I was able to see it as an opportunity to learn about
myself.
Besides doing mind-mapping, I also did a personality test in order to
know about myself in details. My results are INFJ-T. To give a basic and
quick intro, INFJ-Ts are sometimes called the “extroverted introverts” or
even ambiverts , Is both incredibly shy, quiet, and withdrawn, as well as
charming, fun, and hilarious. For an INFJ, it’s all about the situation,
your mood, and energy levels — and most important, the people you’re
with.
“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations,
obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a
revolution in your heart.”
---About INFJ-T
Empathy - I
often feel like see precisely what someone else is feeling and believe
in me know what they need deep down. I'm not always right, but I tend to
be more perceptive than most.
Creativity - I find myself compassionate and use this creativity as a
strength in helping others in solving their problems. I enjoy finding
solutions in all aspects of life, and imagination that can help me see
a deeper meaning in many things.
Determined - Sometimes I can feel that I am quiet on the
whole but also have an intense passion for anything that is important to
myself. My own determination and passion for what interests myself can
sometimes be a surprise to others.
Senser - Often immediately sense the mood of a room when I walk into it.
Likewise, I often absorb the feelings of the people around me. If
they’re excited, I get excited. If they’re anxious, I get anxious, too.
I'm tend to gravitate toward calm, centered people so I don’t have to
deal with as much emotional garbage.
Ideation & Inspiration
Fig 2.0 Inspiration from Pinterest , Week 5 (28/09/2022)
Scrolling through Pinterest, I found that the minimalist yet elegant look
really caught my eye. Knowing myself through mind mapping and personality
tests gave me some ideas about self-care and self-love that I could apply to
my main work. The style I looking for will be simple, minimalist, but
present an elegant look that could represents my personality.
Sketches
Fig 3.0 Sketches , Week 5 (28/09/2022)
I used Pro Create and its brushes to came up with 5 different ideas. In the
sketches , I use my own name "Tan Pei Yun" to explore around with the
letters.
Idea #1 - Letters "T" and "P" Idea #2 - My name "YUN" Idea #3 - Bold letters "PEI" Idea #4 - Letters "T' , "P" and "Y" , but somehow it reminds me of Pinterest logo, not working for idea #4 Idea #5 - Letters "P" and "Y" , it affect the readability and it can't tell the letters of Y. Idea #6 - My name "YUN" , it simple and straight forward but it can explore more around with the letters.

Improvement (From Idea #3)
After getting the first feedback for idea #3, Mr. Vinod suggested that the stroke of the thin line is too thin, which may affect readability, while the letter "N" looks more like the letter "A", so I tried again to change the letter, and below are my results :
Fig 4.4 Attempt #1, week 7 (12/10/2022)
Fig 4.5 Attempt #2, week 7 (12/10/2022)
Fig 4.6 Attempt #3, week 7 (12/10/2022)
I quite enjoyed the way how it looks during the attempts #2, But somehow its quite hard to explore around the way it looked , it seems way too straight-foward. In attempt #3 it slowly to get what I really wanted, I also added a small element which could add some style to it.
Fig 4.7 Elements used in key artwork, week 7 (12/10/2022)
If you noticed there's a small flower looking element. To closer and break them apart to explain individually, its about determined , creativity and empathy that represent my personality.

TASK 2(B) - Key collateral The next task, we are task to design relevant collaterals and create an Instagram account transforming the key artwork into a brand.
Note :
Animated key artwork first and fine-tune the outcomes before going on
to the and other collateral material: t-shirt, lapel pin and finally
an Instagram account. Animated Key Artwork (800/1024 px, height and width).
The output must result from in-depth exploration and must communicate
both visually and textually the desired message and mood set by the key
artwork and its function.
1. Animations Key Artwork :
Fig 5.0 Animation Progress in AE , week 7 (12/10/2022)
During the animation stage, I tried two different types of animation. The first was a 3D kind of effect, while the second was a liquid effect. In addition, I added sound effects to the animation and saved it as a video. Here are the results:
Fig 5.2 Test logo animation #1 , week 6 (05/10/2022)
My first attempt at the animation was to make it look 3D, although it turned out great, but somehow it looked too simple and plain, especially the background. I wanted to go for something more "movement" in it. I tried the liquid effect by applying at the back of my key artwork and I love how it turns out.
Fig 5.3 Final Animation "YUN", week 7 (12/10/2022)
Fig 5.4 Final Animation "YUN" (Sound Added), week 7 (12/10/2022)
I decided to stay with three colours, black, gray, and pink, that complement both my key collateral and my personality. Black and grey can balances out the vibrant, playful energy that pink often brings to the collateral. The challenge I think in this stage is to find the right item that can represent about self-identity and arrange them into the feed for my Instagram account, and it took me quite some time to search and look up what I really wanted to show and give some meaning to it.
In order to show my key artwork/logo, I decided to use embossed paper texture effect. To make it more appealing and suitable for Instagram, I decided to change the paper colour to pink and change the background colour. My favourite part of the finished design was how it gives a 3D effect that stands out from the paper.

2. Poster
Fig 6.2 Poster Design in A4 size, week 6 (05/10/2022)
I added some self-love quotes that are really liked about , I choose to emphasise my element first then to the key artwork and lastly to the quotes , Font used : Baskerville , Sans Serif
Fig 6.3 Final Key Collateral #1- Poster, week 6 (05/10/2022)
considering the idea and concept of a brand identity in self-care, I chose face mask as my key collateral. I begin by designing the mask using my key artwork. I see the element of a flower in my logo or key artwork as an opportunity to use it as a pattern for collateral. Here are the results:
For scented candle, I have to design the packaging with using my key artwork. I made the box packaging into black and logo in pink , while for the label in scented candle, I decided to repeat the element surround with the key artwork.
Font used : Gill Sans - Bold Italic & Baskerville - Sans Serif
Fig 7.2 Design for fabric scarf , week 6 (05/10/2022)
After doing the facial mask, initially having an idea about doing the design of fabric scarf. I really loved the flat-ray outcome looks like , where you could see the texture of the fabric in details.
Mr Vinod told us that we need to include one collateral with our own picture , so with that I decided to add my picture to the screen of the Ipad where it show the website of myself and also added icon of social media at the bottom.
8. Instagram Account
Fig 7.7 Progress in arranging post for instagram , week 7 (12/10/2022)
Lastly, for the final part of key collateral is to create a instagram account and arrange the feed with the key collateral I have made. There will be 9 post in total, I decided to put my key artwork at the middle where I think people tend to focus on the middle post first then only the others. I use Illustrator to help me arrange the sequence before I post it to my account.

Reflection
Experience
It was my first time working under my own name, I thought it would be difficult, but I managed to work well until I submitted this task 2. I sincerely enjoyed the part where it comes to task 2B. It was really meaningful and a good start to explore myself.
Observation
I been noticed about myself that whenever I design something, I end up hating it after a few weeks. It's a constant battle to outdo myself last time, and I'm always looking for ways to be satisfied with what I make. Besides, I observed that logos have the power to convey the essence of who you are as a brand which could helps to express the brand character through distinct colours and letter style.
Findings
Typography is like a love-hate relationship to me, I love solving problems, but sometimes I tend to look for perfection in every detail surrounding my work. Of course, I personally like the whole design process. Start from scratch, then create a solution to the problem.

Typefaces are everywhere and typography tends to be an individualist and hypercritical field in which peers regularly try to outwit one another.“Typography passes for being invisible,” said Jonathan Hoefler, 49, a star designer who has created typefaces for Apple and the 2012 Obama campaign, in a phone interview. “People really don’t think about the fact that typefaces are indeed made by people.”

"Type is crucial to brand expression?"
"No matter the medium or the audience, type is everywhere that a written message needs to be conveyed," says Lukas Paltram, creative director at leading type design studioDalton Maag. "Creating a unique expression at that essential level of communication is extremely powerful. It can be a big asset for brands to stand out, and it enables them to use a unique voice in their visual communication."
Creating bespoke typefaces is expensive and time-consuming, and may not always be worth the investment. However, the one-off cost for a truly ownable asset may be more attractive than buying multiple licenses to an existing typeface that others can use
